The purpose of this web site is for the transferring of information about our Roark and Conner ancestors and to encourage the exchange of family information. Our Roarks descended from Timothy Roark, born about 1769 and died in 1831. He was in Tazewell County, VA in 1800 and later settled in Tazewell, Claiborne County, Tennessee. The Conner line comes down through Maximilian Haney Conner, born 2 Jan 1806 and died 7 Jul 1893. Maximilian Haney Conner settled in Hamilton County, Tennessee in 1835, he was the son of Maximilian Conner and Phoebe Bishop Conner. Maximilian Conner died in Cocke County, Tennessee in Nov 1834 and is buried in an unmarked grave. His wife Phoebe stayed in Cocke County, Tennessee with the part of her children that remained in the area. Maximilian Haney Conner and his wife, Martha Palmer Conner and two children along with eight other families left Cocke County in Dec 1834 going to the west by boating down the river. They were stopped when the Tennessee River was frozen over below Hiwassee Island (Jolly Island). Maximilian Haney and some other families settled in the area and some families continued on down the river.
