 By President Gene Johnson We are currently in the process of updating this website to include new articles about our Roark-Conner ancestry. Included alongside this will be updates about our annual reunion as well as other activities that may be of interest to members. The Roark-Conner Association is a national, non-profit organization that includes approximately 350 families scattered over 39 states and Canada. The Roark-Conner families that originally settled in Birchwood, Tennessee were the basis for the Association being founded in 1959. In addition to our interest in genealogy, we maintain a group of family-related cemeteries and provide upkeep of the old Salem Baptist Church site. Our organization also produces an award winning, quarterly newsletter and has published a number of books of family histories. Our annual October Reunion is held on the weekend before Columbus Day and provides an exciting opportunity to gather in fellowship, beginning with our Friday Fun Night. The following Saturday is a day of business meetings, memorial services, family biographical presentations, and ends with an evening banquet. Sunday is reserved for an open-air church service at the site of the old Salem Baptist Church and is followed by a catered lunch at Birchwood School. The afternoons of Saturday and Sunday are times to visit local cemeteries and other local Birchwood area attractions. The major objectives of the Association are to: • Develop, communicate, and advance the knowledge of the Roark-Conner family ancestries. • Encourage the association among all descendants. • Encourage the genealogical research of the families. • Encourage the publication of family genealogical and historical dates. • Promote the collection and preservation of the early family related records and artifacts related to the Roark and Conner families.
